OATH stands for Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings. The OATH is responsible for a wide range of violation cases related to housing, health, consumer affairs, licensing, and more. ECB stands for Environmental Control Board. The ECB conducts hearing to enforcing quality of life regulations such as noise, sanitation, building codes and other environmental issues.
When a person or business receives a violation notice from a city agency, they may have the opportunity to contest the violation at an OATH hearing. During the hearing, both parties present their arguments and evidence, and an administrative law judge makes a decision based on the merits of the case. The decision may involve dismissing the violation, upholding the penalties, or taking other appropriate actions.
